Photo from the night Jimmy and Electra met, preserved by Jimmy until they reunited in 2009.
Nights of Lights in St. Augustine, Florida, Electra's favorite place to visit.
Jimmy and Electra met in 1990. They were friends but parted ways and went on to live their separate lives. They reunited in 2009, became a couple in 2010 and married in 2016. Since then they started a radio show, a radio station and now The Music Collective Foundation.
Jimmy was surrounded by music growing up and started playing piano as a child, but that was literally cut short after an open lawn mower flywheel took off the top of his finger. Later his mom let him choose what he wanted to do for his 8th birthday. He chose some friends to accompany him to see Godzilla at the theater. The opening short film was Jimi Hendrix Plays Berkeley. He was blown away, soon got a guitar and has had the bug ever since.
Jimmy works as a senior technician. His territory covers N. Central Florida and South Georgia. When he isn't driving all over the place he is running The Music Collective Foundation and the technical side of ElectraLand Radio. He is a technical and mechanical wizard and can fix anything. This earned him a plaque from the US Navy, naming him "Mr. Fix It" from his superiors. He worked his way up to enlisted in charge of flight ops and air traffic control on The US Eisenhower in the '80s. He returned home and enrolled at the University of Florida where he pursued a degree in mechanical engineering and got three semesters away before deciding his dream was something else. He is now living his dream by working in music to serve others. He works tirelessly to record, broadcast, present and preserve indie music and is now devoted to help those making music and making music happen. Collective bargaining and discounts on products and services that will make their lives easier.
Electra also grew up with an eclectic and wide variety of music all around. With a mom who hung out with folk musicians and a dad who was an audiophile, she was destined to want a part in the world of music. Hearing everything from classical to Zappa to folk and disco, her musical appreciation is wide. She always thought she was supposed to do a "big thing" but wasn't sure what that was until now.
She wished to be a singer in a rock band, and was in chorus from 3rd to 8th grades, but quit chorus in high school to be in the color guard. She started sewing clothes when she was 12. When the hair metal craze hit she was all in. She then decided her "in" was to major in fashion design and make clothes for rock bands. This dream was derailed when she transferred to the University of Tennessee, which only had fashion merchandising. NOT the same. So, she had a family, did some important and meaningful side projects but put most of her energies into raising her kids.
Electra's dad taught her about good food, and the hippies rubbed off with their natural ways. She got certified as an Integrative Health Coach in 2017. While in school, she started The Rock-n-Roll Health Chick column in a southern music magazine, she and Jimmy created the Rockin' Your Health radio show and then started ElectraLand Radio. Electra quickly realized how hard the musicians work and how little the payoff. She wants to help them keep making music without sacrificing their mental and physical health, because they lack the resources to eat and sleep right, get medical care, etc. Her dream is to see musicians rewarded justly for the gift of music they provide, from their hearts and souls, that is thebackdrop to our lives and powers our worlds.
